DCITA Update
DCITA held public forums on WSIS and Internet governance in Sydney and Melbourne on 3 and 4 August. A record of the meetings will be posted shortly on the Internet governance section of the DCITA website.
DCITA briefed NICTIA on WSIS and Internet governance on 11 August 2005.
Reminder: Anyone wishing to provide comments direct to the WSIS Secretariat in the ITU on the report of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) is requested to do so by email to wsis-contributions@itu.int by 15 August. The WGIG report is available at www.wgig.gov. (If you make comments, it would be helpful if you also copied DCITA but this is entirely up to you.)
If you would like to provide comments to DCITA for consideration in the finalisation of the Australian Government position on WSIS and Internet governance and for negotiation at WSIS PrepCom3 on 19-30 September pls email them to ig&wsis@dcita.gov.au as soon as possible but no later than 9 September. Key points are sufficient. We can follow-up as necessary.
The International Conference on Engaging Communities, an initiative of the United Nations and the Government of Queensland, takes place in Brisbane on 14-17 August 2005. Themes include ICTs and the community. Wal Taylor and Don Schauder will speak on the WSIS process. See: http://www.engagingcommunities2005.org/home.html
The second Informal Consultation Meeting on Internet Governance (open to all stakeholders) will take place in Geneva, on 6 September 2005. DCITA has requested a report on the meeting.
